You must be located in Montana at the time of your session.
Montana is a big state. Not everyone lives near a therapist’s office. Not everyone has the time or flexibility to drive across town, find parking, and sit in a waiting room. For many people, the barriers between wanting help and getting it are mostly logistical, not motivational.
Telehealth removes those barriers. Research consistently shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person care for a wide range of mental health conditions. The relationship with your therapist, the thing that actually drives outcomes, translates completely to video. What doesn’t translate is the commute, the scheduling friction, and the geographic limitations.
At Brighter Sky Counseling, all of our therapists offer telehealth sessions via secure, HIPAA-compliant video. You get the same team, the same experienced therapists, the same evidence-based approaches, just on your terms.
Telehealth is available to anyone located in Montana at the time of their session, whether you’re in Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, a small town, or anywhere in between.
Convenience is part of it. But for many clients, telehealth isn’t just easier. It’s actually the better option.
Skip the drive, the parking, and the waiting room. Your session starts when you’re ready, from wherever you are in Montana.
Sessions that fit your actual life: during a lunch break, after school drop-off, or at any time that would otherwise be logistically impossible.
Many clients find it easier to open up when they’re in their own space. The familiar environment can actually support the therapeutic process.
Rural Montana shouldn’t mean limited mental health options. Telehealth means our therapists are available wherever you are in the state.
Travel for work, a new address, or life changes don’t have to disrupt your therapy. Your relationship with your therapist continues uninterrupted.
Decades of research confirm: telehealth is just as effective as in-person therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, and most other mental health concerns.
From first contact to your first session, here’s exactly what to expect.
Reach Out & Get Matched
Contact us through our contact form, by phone, or email. We’ll ask a few questions to understand what you’re looking for and match you with the right therapist. Let us know you prefer telehealth and we’ll confirm availability. No waitlist for most insurance plans.
Complete Your Intake Paperwork
Before your first session, you’ll complete a brief intake through our secure client portal. This includes consent forms and basic information that helps your therapist prepare. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes and can be done from any device.
Get Your Secure Video Link
Before your session, you’ll receive a link to join via our HIPAA-compliant video platform. No downloads required. It works in any modern web browser. You just need a device with a camera and microphone, and a private space for your session.
Your Session — Same as In-Person
Your telehealth session is a real therapy session: same length, same structure, same quality of care. Your therapist brings the same clinical expertise, the same evidence-based approaches, and the same investment in your progress. The screen is just the medium.
Ongoing Care, On Your Schedule
Most clients meet weekly or bi-weekly. Sessions are billed and covered by insurance the same way as in-person visits. If you’d ever prefer to switch to in-person at our Billings office, we make that easy too.
Telehealth is a great fit for most people, and we want to be honest about when in-person might be worth considering too.
- Anxiety, depression, stress, and mood concerns
- Trauma processing and PTSD treatment
- Life transitions, grief, and relationship issues
- Teens and adolescents comfortable with screens
- Adults with busy schedules or long commutes
- Anyone living outside Billings or in rural Montana
- Clients who travel frequently for work
- People who simply prefer the comfort of home
- You don’t have a reliably private space at home
- You have limited or unreliable internet access
- You prefer face-to-face connection to get started
- Your child is very young or has difficulty with screens
- You’re in an acute crisis and want immediate in-person support
Not sure? Just ask. We’ll help you figure out what’s right for you, and switching between telehealth and in-person is always an option.
Telehealth sessions at Brighter Sky Counseling are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant, encrypted video platform. Your sessions are not recorded. Your personal health information is handled with the same strict confidentiality as any in-person appointment.
Your therapist will never conduct a session in a space where they might be overheard. We recommend you do the same: find a private room, use headphones if helpful, and let people in your household know you’re unavailable for the duration. If privacy is a concern at home, a parked car, a private office, or a quiet outdoor space can work well.
Does insurance cover telehealth sessions?
Yes. Telehealth sessions are billed and covered the same way as in-person visits for most insurance plans. We accept most major insurance including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Medicaid, Medicare, and others. Contact our client care team to confirm your plan, or visit our rates and insurance page for full details.
What do I need for a telehealth session?
A device with a camera and microphone (smartphone, tablet, or computer), a reliable internet connection, and a private space where you won’t be interrupted or overheard. No special software or app downloads required. Sessions run in your web browser via a link we send before each appointment.
Is telehealth therapy as effective as in-person?
Yes. A substantial body of research, including studies on CBT, DBT, and trauma-focused therapy, shows that telehealth produces outcomes equivalent to in-person care for most conditions. The therapeutic relationship, which is the primary driver of outcomes in therapy, translates fully to video. Many clients actually prefer telehealth and find it easier to be open in their own environment.
I live in a rural area of Montana. Can I still use telehealth?
Absolutely. That’s one of the most important things telehealth makes possible. As long as you’re located in Montana at the time of your session, you can work with any of our therapists, whether you’re in Billings, a small ranch community, or anywhere in between.
Can I switch between telehealth and in-person?
Yes, easily. Many clients mix both: telehealth for most sessions and in-person occasionally, or vice versa. Just let your therapist know what works best for a given week. Our Billings office is available for in-person sessions whenever you prefer, and switching doesn’t require any paperwork or restarting the process.
What if my internet cuts out during a session?
It happens occasionally. If your connection drops, your therapist will attempt to reconnect via the video link. If that doesn’t work, they’ll call you directly to continue by phone or reschedule if needed. A brief tech hiccup won’t count against your session time.
Is telehealth available for children and teens?
Yes. Telehealth works well for most teens and adolescents. For younger children, in-person is sometimes preferable depending on the child and what’s being worked on. Our therapists will help you figure out what makes the most sense. Learn more on our therapy for kids page and our teen therapy page.
No matter where you are in Montana, no matter how busy your schedule, quality mental health care is available to you. Reach out today and we’ll get you connected with the right therapist.
